Sample programs
Santander Skills | Innovation in Teaching Scholarships
In 2021 Laspau launched an online certificate program to enhance university educators’ pedagogical skills in partnership with Becas Santander. Through a competitive scholarship this program focused on active learning and “backward design” of curricula. This initiative benefited 150 professors across multiple countries and won the 2022 PIEoneer Award for Public/Private Partnership of the Year.
STHEM Brazil
A program for faculty and university leaders in Brazil emphasizing hands-on learning and strengthening pedagogical skills. Participants were required to introduce specific changes in their courses. This program adopted a train-the-trainer model, with each participant training 10 colleagues. Starting with 11 universities in 2014, STHEM Brazil grew to 66 universities by 2023, benefiting 34,000 faculty members who, in turn, impacted over one million students.
STEM Costa Rica
Modeled after the STHEM Brazil program, this program was implemented in partnership with SINAES in Costa Rica and benefited 27 public and private universities, eventually reaching 2,054 professors. The initiative started in 2017 with programs focused on strengthening learning and teaching in STEM fields. By 2023 it had evolved to encompass the social sciences and research in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
These programs were developed and executed under Angélica’s leadership at Laspau, a former affiliate of Harvard University.
